The Chocolate Rose Shoppe Window - Winter

Our latest Chocolate window features three white bears sledding on an antique Flexible Flyer on top of powdery white snow.  This window depicts the winter Christmas we just had here in Madison NJ.   Cocoa (the brown bear) is now wearing a blue and gray sweater that my three boys wore when they were growing up.  He also has on his "If you love Madison, shop Madison" button.  The chocolate highlights are:  Bellagio White Hot Chocolate, Neuhaus Truffles, an Enjou Chocolat decorated shopping bag, a Godiva Truffle Tin, a Leonidas Praline Collection box, a Leonidas Micky/Mini Disney Collection box, and an antique Hershey's tin.  Please come take a look at the window if you have a chance.

Our Festive Chocolate Holiday Window

A few highlights about our Christmas - Holiday window, that was unveiled on November 27, are the Antique Wooden Carousel Horse from Argentina and the Bear (his name is Cocoa) has on a Christmas red hand knitted sweater. We have boxes from a few chocolatiers - Neuhaus, Leonidas, Enjou and Godiva that are surrounded by Nutcrackers. There is a Menorah in a holiday globe sprinkled with snow. The reason the window was setup for the 27th was Madison held a Christmas Parade and Tree lighting on that day. This year my 6 year old niece had the honor of lighting the town Christmas Tree.

Philadelphia National Candy Gift Gourmet Show - Atlantic City NJ - January 11, 2010
As this was a Monday, only one of us was able to attend this event.  At this show, we were able to visit and meet with a couple of our current vendors for the fist time. It was nice to finally meet some of the people we have been talking to on the phone.  We also did some research into adding a refrigerated display case and truffles for individual sale.

Studio Allegro - Nutcracker Ballet Performance - Madison NJ - December 13, 2009
We sold chocolate ballet pops, roses and toy soldiers after each of the two beautiful performances.  This was a great way for us to get out in front of people to promote our shoppe and to watch our daughter in her second Nutcracker performance.  Thank you to Susan and Leslie for letting us do this.

Chocolate Show - New York 2009 - November 1, 2009
This show was great for Sue and I to attend.  We ended up finding a couple of suppliers for our shop during this Sunday excursion and learned a lot about this business.

A Chocolate Rose Halloween

Our first Halloween as chocolate shoppe owners was a very busy day. We provided the candy for a Drew University Halloween Carnival. The candy was used as a prize for each event that was won. At our shoppe we gave out a lot of candy to the parade marching trick or treaters that passed by our store. This was the first year that they had the magic show on Waverly Place, bringing more children than usual. Our children have walk in and enjoyed this parade for many years. At 5:00 we closed our shoppe to go home, trick or treat with our own children then hand out more candy and chocolate bars. A great time was had by all.

Madison Chatham This Week - Newspaper Article

On October 28, 2009 we had our first newspaper and online article written about our shoppe. It was a couple of days before Halloween and we were the featured business in the Madison Chatham this Week paper that gets distributed free to every home and business in our two towns. It was great publicity for us as everyone who now walks into our shoppe mentions the article. Thank you.

Bottle Hill Day 2009 - Madison NJ

When we decided to open our Chocolate Shoppe, the goal was to open the doors a couple of days before the Madison, NJ town festival called Bottle Hill Day. With rain expected for the day, we did not know how the day would turn out. We setup a booth out in front of the shoppe and decided to give out mini chocolate covered pretzels. With all the people stopping by to visit us (the rain held off), we gave out over 400 small pretzels in just under 2 hours. We also had so many visitors that many of our friends could not make it into the shoppe that day as there was a continuous line out the door. When the day was over, we were very happy and tired having completed over 380 register transactions that day. It was a wonderful event for us to announce to Madison, NJ that there was now a chocolate shoppe in the area.

The Chocolate Rose Shoppe - Opening Day

After six weeks of research, planning, town approvals, painting, carpentry, lighting design work, deciding on what chocolate to order, sign design, computer setup, inventory and pricing, ..... we took the brown paper off the store front window on September 24th and opened the door to our Chocolate Shoppe. It was an amazingly fun learning experience for all six of us. Within 20 minutes, we had our first customer. Family and friends came by to see us. After all the hard work, we were finally open for business.
